Your Toddler's Exploding Vocabulary

Conversations with your toddler can be priceless. They will utter the darndest things and have you laughing out loud. But with all the talking and questioning, don't you wish your little chatterbox came with a mute button sometimes?

At this stage, your toddler has a repertoire of words that can be clearly understood. -- and some only parents will understand. They may be putting words together and stringing along a few sentences here and there. And with all of the newfound excitement with words, you will find yourself encouraging your little one to speak, but good luck getting them to stop talking.

Here are some tips to help your little chatterbox.

1. Reading. Reading is the best way to help your toddler enhance their vocabulary and language skills. You will find them paying a lot more attention to the words and not just the sound of your voice. Get your child to interact and repeat words and phrases with you.

2. Visual stimulus. Books with lots of shapes and colors will teach your child to make word and visual associations. Your children also might like picture flash cards and memory games.

3. Watch your tongue. If you have a tendency to sling a few slang words here and there, it's a good time to start watching what you say and use correct language.
