Title
Potty-Training Revisited

By now, your potty-training experience is headed in one of two directions. Progression, where you have made it through most of the difficult hurdles, and life without diapers is quickly approaching; or regression, and your tot is heading back into diaper-land, and you are fed up!

For some folks, potty-training is as easy as 1-2-3, and for others it takes some serious effort and patience. It can be a very draining experience before your toddler is completely independent of diapers. But it does come to an end and all of your late-night laundry work, the bribery, and begging do pay off.

1. Try again. If your toddler has hit a wall with potty-training, don't throw in the towel yet. Give them a jump-start by reintroducing the reward system to keep them motivated. Maybe get some cool character underpants. Your toddler might be less likely to make a mess on their favorite superhero.

2. Privileges. At some point, the soiling of pants does become an attention-seeking behavior. You don't want to punish children for having an accident, but you can remind them that they won't be able to do "big kid" activities if they can't act like one.

3. Patience. Regardless of your toddler's progression or regression with potty-training, try to be patient. Every child is different. One child may take months longer than another to successfully go diaper-free. When they are ready, it will happen.

Toddler Tips
•  Girls usually toilet train around 2.5 years of age. Boys train around 3 to 3.5. Be patient and wait for your child to be developmentally ready to do it.
•  Some kids have irrational fears of the potty (like the potty monster is going to suck them down the drain). For those kids, take baby steps with training.
•  Step 1: You do your business in the bathroom (not in the closet or behind the couch) in a diaper.
•  Step 2: You can still wear a diaper, but you sit on the potty to pee and poop.
